Fit For Life
One of Jerusalem’s finest fitness centers was recently dedicated at Boys Town Jerusalem by two of the school’s finest friends. Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Kathy Kaswell, both New York business executives, arrived in Jerusalem for the dedication ceremony of the new facility, which follows their 2009 donation of a state‐of‐the‐art outdoor multi‐purpose sports field. The Boys Town student body, donning tee‐shirts reading “Kaswell Kids,” greeted the donors with sincere enthusiasm.“This is the greatest gym ever,” exclaimed 9th grader Avi Levi. “We really want to say thank you!”
The new, modern fitness center is outfitted with an array of equipment that rivals the city’s top private gyms. “It was important to us to give the Boys Town students the very best,” noted Robert Kaswell, who serves as Boys Town’s Chairman of the Board. Previously, the school’s fitness room‐‐‐used by day within the physical education program and by night by students living in the dorms—had been housed for years in a crowded, dark and nearly airless shelter. The new facility spans 300 square yards, and boasts acoustical ceilings, air conditioning and heating, generous lighting, and special sport efficient flooring that is strong and flexible.
An avid tennis player who exercises regularly, Robert Kaswell stated simply, “Movement is life.” As he watched Boys Town students working out on the shiny new treadmills, cross‐trainers, exercise bicycles, elliptical and rowing machines, barbells and much more, Kaswell said, “For me, sports are so dynamic that I wanted to give these young men the gift of wellbeing that physical fitness offers.”
At the dedication ceremony, Deputy Jerusalem Mayor Yitzchak Pindrus expressed appreciation to the Kaswells for their “great contribution to Jerusalem’s children and their education.” Boys Town Dean of Students Rabbi Moshe Linchner praised the Kaswells for enabling the school to now enhance their outstanding technological and Jewish studies curriculum with an exceptional physical education as well. “This is the ultimate fulfillment of the Jewish concept of sound body and sound mind,” Rabbi Linchner declared.
“I’ve been blessed that the Almighty let me live to carry this out,” said Robert Kaswell. Hundreds of “Kaswell Kids” at Boys Town Jerusalem have been blessed as well.
